Final, Silvery, Conclusions

In the end we had just 7 days to play with the DVD-L100 before it was whisked away from us - in that time we came to a few conclusions. First of all I think Samsung have a really winner here. The durable build of the DVD-L100 suits it well for travelling on today's airplanes, and the addition of a Sony Memory stick port exemplifies its use or music media playback of all kinds.

The twin headphone jacks allow up to two people to sit back and watch a movie at the same time. Most of us travel in pairs, and to not be able to watch FightClub on a 22hour flight to Tiapei while your cohort was, would leave one of you pretty grumpy. The controls and menus are easy to use, and in general overly simplified. A 6 year old could operate this piece of DVD-watching goodness, but then again who would let a 6 year old touch something this cool?

At $900 USD, the DVD-L100 will not satisfy eveyone's needs, but if you factor in the point that it can be a full-fledged DVD for home use as well (it has video and digital sound outputs on the side remember) then things are a little more evenly placed. Add in MP3 playback of CDR-RW and Memory stick compatibility and things begin to look a lot better.

The remote is laudable, but I am not that picky to hold it against the DVD-L100 which I would place pretty high on my X-mas list. For anyone who spends a lot of time travelling and likes movies, the DVD-L100 is an excellent way to cut through the bordom a few hours at a time. Heat generation may be an annoyance if you keep the player on your lap, but other than that the player is pretty much great in all respects.
