The player comes with play/stop, fast forward, reverse,
record, volume and mode keys. With the mode of the player set to digital
voice recorder you can record notes or other audio on the spot with the Yepp
YP-700H. The buttons are all slightly recessed to the side of the unit, so
we didn't find any problems with buttons getting pushed by accident.
The blue back lit LCD is of the matrix variety, which
means it is able to display full lines of scrolling text, song lengths
and other important information. The back light kicks in whenever you hit
a key, but if you would rather conserve battery strength the
brightness can be toned down, or turned off altogether.
Below the Mode key is a very small plastic flap which
conceals the port for the USB cable. The YP-700H connects via 5Mbps USB
connection to the computer so the user can transfer MP3, or even WMA files back
and forth.
Moving files to the player is taken care of by Samsungs'
Yepp manager software. It is pretty straight forward, and best of all - if you
have ever had a Yepp MP3 player in the past, the software is pretty much
identical. Yepp explorer gives you control over both the internal flash memory
and any SMC cards which happen to be installed - so if you want to set up a
certain group of songs on the Smart Media card you can do that, and even arrange
their order if you prefer.
The menu illustrates the current list of titles on the
YP-700H, and shows stats on total remaining memory, and directories as well.
