It's not often that
jaws drop when we look at an MP3 player, but in the case of the YP-700H that's
exactly what happened. The small YP-700H hardly weighs a thing, though I'm
left wishing it was slightly smaller in size. It comes encased in a sleek
aluminum shell and is surprisingly well equipped in the feature department. The
protective case is necessary if you are unwilling to settle for scratches,
and unfortunately there is no cutout in the leather to see the LCD display screen.
The YP-700H is a step up from the
more portable YP-30S Yepp player - which is barely the size of a pager, and the
YP-700H also includes a handy digital FM Radio tuner.
Gone are the days of
the little black CD-Player, and after we took a good long look at the
Yepp YP-700H with its aluminum shell, suede leather case, silver remote and dual
Indiglo back lit LCD screens that's fine by us. There was a time
not too long ago where MP3 players
were the subject of heated lawsuits - but what is so popular can never
be swept under the rug and will hopefully continue to evolve.
With the ability to hold up to 256MB of music, the
Samsung Yepp YP-700H is a really cool personal audio device that also looks
nice. It does not have the massive storage capabilities of a hard drive based player, but then again
it has neither the size, nor the weight of those devices as well. The Yepp YP-700H
supports MP3, WMA formats and VBR recordings, features a proprietory 2X MP3
technology from Samsung (this applies to 22KHz or 44KHz recordings only) and
with both battery packs will last upwards of 18-20 hours.
We've been testing this baby out in the lab for a while now and I can say
that it has passed with flying colours. The biggest pluses from our experience
using the Samsung Yepp YP-700H are the smart media slot, rechargeable battery,
and remote. Those three aspects make it one really versatile player that as
definitely earned our acclaim.
