SPECviewperf™ is a portable OpenGL performance
benchmark program written in C. It was developed by IBM. Later updates and
significant contributions were made by SGI, Digital and other
SPECopcSM project group members. SPECviewperf provides a vast amount
of flexibility in benchmarking OpenGL performance. Currently, the program runs
on most implementations of UNIX, Windows NT, Windows 95/98 and Linux. Higher
numbers equate to better performance.

3D
performance is not the Metis 266's strong
point (and not really intended to be either). Those numbers would have been
worse if we were using the integrated ProSavage8 videocard; no matter what we
did, we could not get the
ugs-01 test to run.
3DMark2001 SE is the latest installment in
the 3DMark series by MadOnion. By combining DirectX8 support with completely new
graphics, it continues to provide good overall system benchmarks. 3DMark2001 SE
has been created in cooperation with the major 3D accelerator and processor
manufacturers to provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite
demonstrates 3D gaming performance by using real-world gaming technology to test
a system's true performance abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders,
Pixel Shaders and Point Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping,
support for Full Scene Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests
using Ipion real-time physics. Higher 3DMark scores denote better
performance.

One
positive aspect of a computer that handles office applications well, but frowns
upon 3D oriented games, and benchmarks like 3DMark is that
it should be a deterrent for office works from playing games all day long. They'll be
able to run them just fine, but the graphics may be a bit
barren.
