We recently got the chance to take
a look at Nvidia's latest graphics processor release, the FX5950 Ultra chip, as thoughtfully provided by
Gigabyte in their GV-N595U video card.

Benchmarks: AquaMark 2.3, Unreal Tournament 2003
AquaMark is
another DirectX 8 benchmark. Using vertex shaders, any card that is DirectX8
compatible will not just have a huge speed boost, the image will also look
better. Default test has 24 MB worth of textures.
Aquamark
3's older sibling is a directX 8.1 benchmark. As you can see, the GV-N595U
handily took the crown in this test, compared to the Radeon 9800 Pro.
Not
surprising, as the older FX5900 also outperformed ATI's offerings in this arena.
Notable stats here are again the Gigabyte FX5950 Ultra's lack of a significant
advantage over the FX5900, and the decent boost that overclocking gave to
performance when benchmarking at the higher resolutions.

Unreal
Tournament 2003 is the sequel to 1999's multiple 'Game of the Year' award
winner. It uses the very latest Unreal Engine technology - where graphics, sound
and game play are taken beyond the bleeding edge. Unreal Tournament 2003 employs
the use of Vertex as well as Pixel Shaders and it's recommended that you use a
DirectX 8 videocard to get the most out of the game.
Another
DirectX 8.1 benchmark. UT2K3 is substantially limited by the power of the CPU,
as well as videocard performance, as evidenced in the uniform results of the
'botmatch' set of benchmarks.
The
FX5950 does manage to pull away from the Radeon 9800 Pro in the higher
resolutions of the 'flyby' demo though.
