The LG GSA-4120B
works well, so its good to see it lives up to standard here in the dual layer
DVD tests. Start, average and end speeds are exactly as advertised.
A very nice drive!
With the saturation of DVD-ROM drives entering
the market, and the relatively low price per disc, recordable DVD
drives and media have effectively usurped recordable CD's as the ideal mass
storage medium. Think about it, first generation single layer burners can hold up to 4.7GB
of data or seven times that of a regular CD-R. Second generation dual layer
burners like the LG GSA-4120B can burn 8.5GB
of data on one single disc!
Being one of the few drives on the market that can
burn every single type of media (CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R. DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM)
the LG GSA-4120B is still very economically priced at just $100 CDN ($77 US)! Because the drive is retail, it comes with
the pretty box, necessary documents for novice users, all the cables you'll need
and a decent software package which includes Nero Burning ROM and PowerDVD.
Performance of the LG GSA-4120B was very good, the only thing that seemed odd was
the high CPU usage when working with DVD media. Access times and burning speeds
were as advertised, and we had no problems operating with the different media
types. If your current CD-RW is starting to go, or you're in the market
for a DVD burner, make sure you check out the second generation dual layer
LG GSA-4120B burner! Inexpensive, fast and with the ability to burn 8.5GB of data, how
could it be better?
