The
latest version of the popular PCMark series, PCMark04 is an application-based
benchmark and a premium tool for measuring overall PC performance. It uses
portions of real applications instead of including whole applications or using
specifically created code. This allows PCMark04 to maintain a smaller
installation size while still giving accurate results.

The GA-8TRX330-L shows it has a considerable performance
advantage over the older ATi chipsets, at least in this benchmark. Overall
scores lag behind the Intel i865 board, though the CPU score is encouraging.
By
combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, 3DMark 2001 SE
continues to provide a good overall system benchmark. 3DMark2001 SE was created
in co-operation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to
provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming
performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true
abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point
Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene
Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time
physics. Higher 3DMark scores denote better performance.

In 3DMark2001, we can see that ATi has improved on its
3D performance with each new revision and chipset. With the RX330, it is closer
to i865PE levels.
3DMark05
is the latest version of the highly favoured 3DMark graphics benchmarking
series. It is the first benchmark to require DirectX®9.0 compliant hardware with
support for Pixel Shader 2.0 or higher!

The overall score is pretty flat because 3DMark05 is
more of a videocard benchmark than a system test. The GA-8TRX330-L still shows
encouraging performance here, besting the Intel motherboard for the first time.
