Now we are going to take a quick look at some of our
favourite useful (and not so useful) Firefox extensions. All of these can
be easily installed either by using the extension manager as we detailed above,
or by simply going to the link for each with the Firefox browser and hitting the
'install now' button.
ForecastFox: Everyone is
interested in the weather, and this handy little app makes sure you have it to
hand at all times. All you need to do is enter your local weather code (the app
includes a handy search tool for discovering this) and you are all set. By
default, ForecastFox will display weather icons for the next two days and
nights. Placing the cursor over these icons will give you the weather report for
that period.
ImageZoom: This thoughtful little
application sits in the right click context menu and allows you to zoom images
in a variety of ways. Not world shaking, but certainly useful to have.
Googlepreview : Hmm, thumbnails for
every result in your Google or Yahoo search pages... Sounds desirable doesn't
it? Of course it does. Anything that makes your web searching a little bit
easier is great, and this Firefox extension does just that.
Nukeanything:
Another nifty
little application for the context menu. Nukeanything allows you to, well... Nuke anything by right
clicking on it.Want to show somebody something but don't want them to see an
objectionable image? Some text you want to get rid of? Nuke it!
This application simply causes the offending items to
disappear completely, only coming back when you reload the page. You
can use this as a handy way to format hard to print pages before printing,
since the 'nuked' items will not print out!
Colorzilla: Now this extension could
come in handy for any number of applications. Colorzilla installs as a tiny
eyedropper icon in the bottom left corner of the Firefox screen. When you click
on it, it converts your cursor to a colour sampling tool which will capture the
colour value of any part of the current webpage in one of four different
formats. Right clicking on the eyedropper icon gives you the option to copy any
one of these formats to the clipboard for importing into your favourite graphics
program. This gives you a great way to quickly colour match web graphics without
leaving your browser. Colorzilla can also zoom a page up to 1000% to help you in
capturing the right tone.
