One thing I
have never understood was hardware brand loyalty. I simply go with whatever is
fastest (or sometimes best value) whenever it is time to upgrade. Going with a
specific company because of brand-loyalty is a bit ridiculous when it comes to
computer hardware.
At the moment if you want the
best there is only one option; that is a videocard based on nVIDIA's GeForce
7800GTX GPU. It simply blows away the competition and anyone who says otherwise
is not giving you the facts.
With a
retail price of $579 CDN ($484 US), the MSI
NX7800GTX-VT2D256E is one of the least expensive GeForce 7800GTX videocards on
the market. That should not be a surprise though, traditionally MSI has offers
better value than its competition. A side note, its amazing that after only a
few months since its release, prices have fallen from a MSRP of
$599US.
The
videocard itself is nothing special to look at and is 100% based on the
reference nvidia design. MSI includes a decent software bundle which includes
the hot title "Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From
Butcher Bay" as well as some multimedia applications. Considering a person
would have to buy two cards to run SLI, it would be nice for MSI to release its
NX7800GTX-VT2D256E with a few different software bundles.
In terms of
performance the MSI NX7800GTX-VT2D256E videocard performed excellently,
it was tied with the other GeForce 7800GTX videocards for top spot in every
test. If you are into overclocking the NX7800GTX-VT2D256E did pretty well both
with a single card and in SLI mode, mind you I hope you have good case cooling
should you decide to overclock a GeForce 7800GTX videocard.
If you have
been itching to upgrade to the latest, look no further than MSI's
NX7800GTX-VT2D256E videocards. It is priced competitively, incorporates a good
bundle, and performs just as fast as the rest. What more could you ask
for?!?
