The Yepp YP-U1ZB ships with a pair of
nice ear bud headphones, in black. The mini-headphone jack is gold plated, and the ear buds
are ergonomically shaped so they rest relatively comfortably in the ear.
The buds are a
little long, probably to fit the full "SAMSUNG" logo in, and while they do the job
well, we'd be just as inclined to swap them out for a pair of good
wrap-around-the-ear headphones like this set from Audio
Technica.
The sound
quality is on par with what you
can expect from this style of ear bud headphones, which is more than satisfactory for
running around. The cable is also a good length (~1.2m), so you can store the
YP-U1ZB in a pocket and still have plenty of headphone cable to spare.
Close up Look at the
Samsung YP-U1ZB
The Samsung YP-U1ZB player has its controls nicely
arranged for out of view operation (ie. in a coat pocket). The YP-U1ZB's LCD screen has a white LED backlit that
springs to life when keys are pressed. The large circular paddle controls the menu navigation, track advance, track fast forward, and the volume.
By holding the menu button down users can skip through
the music, navigation (files and folders), playlist, and settings modes. The
LCD screen display a bunch of information quite legibly, and the backlight helps
make for a sharp contrast too. This includes a scrolling ID3 tag,
track length, next track name, remaining battery life, number of songs remaining
in the folder, and audio effects among other bits of info.
On the the left-hand edge of the Yepp
YP-U1ZB are the reset, record / loop A-B and play/pause keys. The play/pause button turns the
MP3 player on and off.
On the backside of the YP-U1ZB is the cleverly hidden full size
USB2.0 jack which tucks neatly into its own little
compartment.
On the right-hand
side is the hold button which will prevent every other button from reacting whether the player is
on or off.
At the tippy top of the Samsung YP-U1ZB is the headphone jack and mic slot.
With the YP-U1ZB MP3 player comes a variety of different pre-set sound effect which include the standards;
normal, classic, jazz and rock. If you want to get fancy, there is also Bass Booster and a 9-band
user defined equalizer to
toy with.
How does the YP-U1ZB stand up for recording a quick
voice memo, we'll that's
up next.
