Benchmarks: Office Productivity, SiSoft Sandra 2005

Office Productivity Source: Zdnet

Business Winstone 2004 runs real applications through a series of scripted activities and uses the time a PC takes to complete these activities to produce its performance scores.

Content Creation Winstone 2004 is a system-level, application-based benchmark that measures a PC's overall performance when running top, Windows-based, 32-bit, content creation applications in Windows XP.

Office Productivity:
Business Winstone 2004: Points Ranking
Intel Pentium D 840 25.3
Intel Pentium D 940 27.4
AMD Athlon64 FX-62 36.4
AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ 33
AMD Sempron 3600+ 26.4
Intel Pentium M 740 23.7
Content Creation 2004: Points Ranking
Intel Pentium D 840 33.7
Intel Pentium D 940 33.8
AMD Athlon64 FX-62 46.2
AMD Athlon64 X2 5000+ 41.4
AMD Sempron 3600+ 32.4
Intel Pentium M 740 29.6

The Office Productivity tests put the Pentium M 40 processor in an even better light. In fact this little mobile chip is nipping at the heals of the AMD Sempron 3600+ and Intel's own Pentium D 840/940 processors! The Pentium M architecture sure has a lot of power even though the chip is only running at 1.73 GHz.

Sandra is designed to test the theoretical power of a complete system and individual components. The numbers taken though are again, purely theoretical and may not represent real world performance.

SiSoft Sandra numbers are certainly interesting to look at. The Pentium M 740 does not do very well in this benchmark and the numbers look quite low. Real world performance is obviously different. Even though the Pentium M 740 uses DDR2, it's a single channel memory controller which is why memory bandwidth is so low.
