It's great to see how individual memory stacks up against the competition under stock configurations, but we're also going to show how it compares when overclocked. With performance in mind, we're going to compare the maximum overclocked results of the various DDR-2 memory modules PCSTATS has tested in the past which are listed below. Remember, just because memory is clocked fast doesn't mean it's the best thing for a computer. Timings are also important, and getting the right ratio of both is the real key to performance based overclocking!

The SuperTalent T1000UX2G4 memory sits in the middle of the pack in terms of overclocking, both with lower and higher latencies. It's pretty much what we expected, and nice to see SuperTalent can be competitive with the big memory manufacturers.

Good Option for Overclockers:

Experienced overclockers know that the search for the good memory is never ending. Memory tends to top out way before a motherboard or processor, and that lack of bandwidth bottlenecks the system. That's why top overclockers are always scavenging for better memory.

SuperTalent has the goods to go up against the other well known memory manufacturers. The memory that was tested is its T1000UX2G4 and the memory is rated to run at DDR2-1000 (PC2-8000) with 4-5-4-12 CAS Latency timings. Those are fairly aggressive timings, and best of all it has an aggressive price at $464 CDN ($400US, £204 GBP) for this 2GB kit.

Physically, the memory is nothing too special although the heatspreaders do a decent job at keeping the memory cool at high speeds/voltages. If you're going to be overclocking heavily, it pays to have a fan pointing in the memory's direction.

The SuperTalent T1000UX2G4 2GB kit is a good overclocker with relatively tight 4-5-4-12 memory timings. In our tests, the DDR2-1000 DIMMs hit a speed of 1044 MHz. Loosening up the timings to 5-5-5-15, allowed the memory to reach 1160 MHz with 2.3V. Not bad at all! Supertalent's T1000UX2G4 compares well against Corsair and OCZ's best.

As mentioned earlier, overclocking the memory alone does little to boost overall performance, and we could see that with the benchmarks. Don't be fooled though, high performance memory like the SuperTalent T1000UX2G4 is vital when overclocking the entire computer. With the ability to run high speeds, the memory will not hold the system back when the processor and motherboard are overclocked.

If you're planning on overclocking your system heavily, do not cheap out on memory. Doing so will only ruin the fun factor and limit the amount of performance you get from increasing the clock speeds. While the price difference between generic and enthusiast quality memory is not insignificant, if you want to play the performance game this is route to go!
