Overclocking is alive and well! PCSTATS has all the details
you need to see at a glance to know which board is best. The chart we've
compiled below lists the highest overclocked Front Side Bus speeds we were able
to achieve while maintaining 100% stability.
The
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard ranks 5th fastest in this list of overclocked
Intel motherboards with a Front Side Bus speed of 495MHz. Not bad for a
mainstream motherboard, great job both to Intel and Gigabyte for building a
solid overclocking platform.
Well rounded
Motherboard!
As a mainstream
motherboard the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R comes with a concise set of features;
notably Gigabit networking, a half-dozen Serial ATA II channels with RAID and a
SPDIF connector right by its PCI Express x16 videocard slot.
As we saw in the benchmarks, the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R performed very well. It wasn't the
fastest board in every benchmark suite, but in the office application tests in
particular it was right up there. The Intel P35 Express and ICH9R chipsets are
well suited to everyday computing needs, and the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R is most
certainly skewed towards the typical workstation or home PC. It will support a
single videocard, but it doesn't have any flashy heatsinks, lights, or come a
small mountain of accessories. For good Windows Vista compatibility, a DirectX10
videocard is recommended.
The GA-P35-DS3R is a motherboard for users on a budget,
who need a computer built on this popular chipset and have reliability in mind.
Paired with a 1333MHz FSB Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the P35 Express virtually
guarantees a smooth sailing through Windows Vista, Microsoft Office, and
standard productivity applications of that stream.
With a retail price of $145 CDN ($150 USD, £75 GBP), the
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R is affordable but not dirt cheap. In PCSTATS overclocking
tests we were able to push the GA-P35-DS3R to 495MHz with a Core 2 Duo E6750
processor. While the board has overclocking potential, it's real value is
bringing the P35 Express chipset to the desktop with a good feature set for
under $150. If you're looking to build a new Intel Core2 Duo or Core 2 Quad
computer system for the office, it's a fiscally responsible option.
