PCSTATS Maximum Videocard Overclocking Chart & Conclusions
Overclocking is alive and well! PCSTATS has all the details
you need to see at a glance to know how the various videocards tested perform
relative to each other. The chart we've compiled below lists the highest
overclocked core and memory clock speeds we were able to achieve while
maintaining 100% stability. Results are grouped by GPU class, and ranked by
highest memory overclock to lowest.
Please keep in mind that the Asus EN8800GT TOP videocard
comes from the factory heavily pre-overclocked. This is why it doesn't go much
further than stock speeds. Replacing the stock heatsink with something a bit
heftier may aid in overclocking... it may not.
Another Fast GeForce 8800GT
nVIDIA is essentially competing with itself in the
videocard market right now. At the forefront is its G92 based GeForce 8800GT
videocard GPU.
The Geforce 8800GT is such a great value that it's
stealing sales from the GeForce 8600GTS and the higher end
8800GTS/GTX/Ultra models too. Heck if I were in the market for a new videocard,
I'd only be gunning for a GeForce 8800GT based videocard!
Asus has put together what may be the most powerful
GeForce 8800GT on the market. Its EN8800GT TOP/G/HDTP/512M/A videocard
comes clocked at 700 MHz core and 2 GHz memory, that's significantly higher than
the stock GeForce 8800GT speeds of 600 MHz and 1.8 GHz, respectively. That's
even quicker than a G92 based GeForce 8800GTS, and all for only
an extra $50 bucks!
With a retail price of $312 CDN ($310 USD, £154 GBP), the Asus
EN8800GT TOP/G/HDTP/512M/A sits in the middle of the nVIDIA GeForce 8800GT pack.
In addition to the higher clock speed, Asus also bundles a full copy of the
DirectX 10 game Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts. It's about time
manufacturers bundled DirectX 10 games with DirectX 10 videocards. ;-)
In every 3D test PCSTATS ran, the Asus EN8800GT TOP
performed near the top of the pack. It only serious competition is the nVIDIA
GeForce 8800GTX and AMD Radeon HD 2900XT videocards. Realistically, as we
mentioned earlier, if a game or setting is too much for the Asus EN8800GT TOP,
it will be too much for higher end models too.
The Asus
EN8800GT TOP/G/HDTP/512M/A videocard didn't overclock very well at all.
That's alright, it's already heavily overclocked from stock speeds by the
Asus factory. In fact we're quite surprised to see just how far Asus was
willing to push things, it's definitely one of the fastest GeForce 8800GTs out
there. If you're looking for a new PCI Express videocard, right now the
GeForce 8800GT series is where the smart gamers are going. The Asus EN8800GT
TOP/G/HDTP/512M/A videocard is a great videocard, so consider it for your next
computer upgrade.
