Overclocking is alive and well! PCSTATS has all the details
you need to see at a glance to know which board is best. The chart we've
compiled below lists the highest overclocked Front Side Bus speeds we were able
to achieve while maintaining 100% stability.
PCSTATS was able to overclock the Asrock Penryn1600
SLIX3-WiFi motherboard to a moderate 400MHz FSB.
Conclusions: Well Rounded
and Features-a-Plenty
As we've witnessed
in the benchmarks, although the nvidia nForce 680i SLI is getting a little long
in the tooth the Asrock Penryn1600 SLIX3-WiFi is a good budget friendly platform
with a lot of features under its belt.
Unfortunately, a 1600MHz FSB quad-core processor was
unavailable at the time of this review, so we were unable to test this claim by
the manufacturer.
If you
prefer to go the cheap and cheerful route with computer gear, there's no
mistaking the volume of features integrated into this motherboard are
persuasive. It's hard to argue with a $125 price point, but Asrock manage to
sweeten the deal by offering an integrated 802.11G wireless adaptor too. Along
with the collection of features is nVIDIA's nForce 680i SLI chipset, and the
option of running videocards in two or three-way SLI.
The
benchmark results were good but not inspiring, so while the ASrock
Penryn1600 SLIX3-WiFi is no race horse it isn't a mule either. Slap in a pair of
SLI'd nVidia videocards and you'll see the benefit in 3D gaming environments.
For those of you who haven't yet jumped on the ATI Crossfire bandwagon, the
nVidia nForce 680i is the kind of platform you'll need to realize those
multi-videocard day dreams. With a retail price of $125 CDN ($125 US, £65 GBP) the Asrock
Penryn1600 SLIX3-WiFi motherboard is an economical foundation of a mid-level
gaming platform, or just a well rounded workstation.
