3DMark08 Vantage scales to four or eight threads, so the Core i7's hyperthreading nets it a gigantic CPU score, which lets it take the overall performance advantage away from the Phenom II X4 955 BE processor. The Core 2 Duo E8500 comes in just behind the Phenom II X4 955 in this benchmark.

The CPU and overall scores here are a lot closer for 3DMark06, with both quad-core systems attaining large performance margins over triple and dual-core processors. The Core 2 Duo E8500 comes in just behind the Phenom II X4 955 once more.
