Nero's CD
Speed burn tests a DVD+R DL rated at 2.4x. The program emulates a burn that

The iHAS424 is about average when it
comes to DVD media.
Good time to upgrade to SATA
If you have an old IDE optical drive
kicking around inside your PC system, chances are the time is ripe for an
upgrade to something a little more modern.
The IDE connection has become limited to a single
channel on most motherboards, a few others have even done away with parallel
storage interfaces completely.
Moving to a SATA optical burner like the Lite-on iHAS424 means that you won't
be left out in the cold when it's time to upgrade to a new PC, but even better
it will also mean better performance from your optical media.
The Lite-on iHAS424 is
a very fast DVD and CD rewriter, and frequently topped the PCSTATS benchmark
charts, particular when burning or reading CD-Rs, CD-RWs and audio CDs.
It also stayed nicely quiet even when it was spinning
up, a noise that has been the bane of silent-PC
aficionados the world over. Being compatible with DVD-RWs, DVD +/-R, DVD +/-R DL, DVD-RAM
and CD-R/CD-RW discs makes the iHAS424 capable of reading all of
the most popular optical storage formats. The iHAS424 comes with a one year warranty from Lite-On,
although it's been PCSTATS' experience that a lot of optical drives will
keep plugging away for years, and since most-problems are dust-related, so repairs can
be as simple as cleaning your optical media and the laser.
With a price of just $30 CDN ($28 US, £17 GBP), it's easy to notch the
LiteON iHAS424 with Lightscribe capabilities as an upgrade for an older
computer system that could use DVD writing capabilities or needs to free up one
of its precious IDE channels. System builders should also keep it in mind since
optical drives are still very necessary equipment for installing programs or
transferring data between computers.
