Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 Intel P55 Motherboard Review - PCSTATS
What really makes the companies' flagship Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 motherboard stand out from the crowd? In one word - features. For starters Gigabyte has sweetened the pot with a little more of well... everything. There is support for nVidia SLI and ATI CrossfireX of course, but there's also combo USB/eSATA ports and a pair of extra slots for DDR3 memory to entice you.

Time to Upgrade to Intel P55?

Gigabyte's GA-P55-UD6 motherboard packs in a lot of extras - extra DDR3 memory slots, multiple storage controllers that support RAID 0/1/5 and JBOD as well as on-board IEEE 1394 and combo eSATA/USB ports. However this motherboard retails for around $250 CDN ($235 USD £145 GBP), which makes it fairly reasonable for the upper-end enthusiast motherboard market.

Gigabyte's top-end motherboard for the Intel P55 Express chipset achieved average results during PCSTATS benchmarking, which is something you should come to expect from all modern motherboards.

Overclocking results were a little better than average, with a BCLK speed of 210MHz being achieved without much effort. The GA-P55-UD6's BIOS has lots of options for overclocking Intel's socket 1156 processors, which is always appreciated.

The GA-P55-UD6 is also Gigabyte's first motherboard to use 24-phase power, which helps shave off some of its electricity usage when the processor transitions from idle to heavy load. Having more power phases also helps with heat distribution, which keeps the GA-P55-UD6 cooler and allows for better overclocking. The overall build quality of Gigabyte's motherboards and the GA-P55-UD6 in particular is superb.

With extra DDR3 memory banks and PCI Express slots, the GA-P55-UD6 has a lot of room for future expansion. Things get even better when you take into account the 14 USB 2.0 ports (two of which are combo USB/eSATA ports) and 12 SATA 3Gb/s ports as well. The GA-P55-UD6 has a lot of room for expansion, you'll need a lot of hardware to fill up its many ports, slots and memory banks.

The package is rounded out by some decent extras like the on-board PORT 80 card and physical power and reset buttons. Gigabyte hasn't inflated the price of the motherboard by throwing in useless gimmicks, so from a price-to-performance standpoint we here at PCSTATS think the Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 motherboard is a pretty good buy. Recommended.
