SuperPI
calculates the number PI to 1 Million digits in this raw number crunching
benchmark. The benchmark is fairly diverse and allows the user to change the
number of digits of PI that can be calculated from 16 Thousand to 32 Million.
The benchmark, which uses 19 iterations in the test, is set 1 Million digits.
Lower
calculation times are better. SuperPi is not multi-threaded.

There seems to be a bug when running the test AMD Phenom
II X3 720 Black Edition system in DDR2 memory bode, but the DDR3 version worked
just fine. Scores here were quite slow, with the Intel E8400 leading the AMD
Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition's performance by a significant margin.
wPrime uses a recursive call of Newton's method for
estimating functions, with f(x)=x2-k, where k is
the number we're sqrting, until Sgn(f(x)/f'(x)) does not equal that of the
previous iteration, starting with an estimation of k/2. It then uses an
iterative calling of the estimation method a set amount of times to increase the
accuracy of the results. It then confirms that n(k)2=k to ensure the calculation was correct. It repeats
this for all numbers from 1 to the requested maximum.
