As we saw in the benchmark results,
there's not much of a performance difference between Intel H67 & P67
platforms in office oriented applications. CPU, memory and the storage device
play a larger role these days than the chipset once did.
Given this, it stands to reason that PC shoppers on a tight budget
should choose the least expensive Intel H67 motherboard they can find, with the
most features to offer.
If you're dead set on buying into big-brand-ASUS, the
P8H67-M Evo is a good platform for workstation PCs in an
office or school environment. It can support dual monitors and eSATA devices, though we
would have liked more than just two USB 3.0 ports. The boards'
four display outputs make it suitable for connecting to a HDTV as a HTPC;
with a good Sandy Bridge processor there's no real handicap to content creation
or productivity applications either.
For gaming, you're better off in the long run with
a mainstream videocard. The DX10.1 Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics core is
fine for desktop applications and low end gaming,
possibly even some MMORPG titles, but doesn't support DX11 titles
or very high resolutions with fine image quality settings. On that
note, I think you'd be crazy to install dual videocards on a mATX motherboard....
but ASUS seem to think otherwise. As is usual with IGP motherboards,
it all depends on what you need the computer to do and how much you
can afford to spend.
Ultimately, the ASUS P8H67-M Evo motherboard is a good
foundation for building a well rounded office workstation or HTPC/media PC
- Sandy Bridge / LGA1155 processors have a lot to offer in these respects and
are powerful enough to meet daily PC needs. While there's really nothing bad about the ASUS P8H67-M Evo board, PCSTATS
would instead recommend the Biostar TH67XE
which is a much better value at ~$90USD than the relatively expensive ~$133USD ASUS P8H67-M Evo.
