Samsung 9-Series NP900X4C-A02 15.1-inch Ultrabook Laptop Review
Samsung 9-Series NP900X4C-A02 15.1-inch Ultrabook Laptop Review - PCSTATS
Design wise, Samsung have done well by their 9-Series Ultrabook; the system is wrapped in dark cobalt blue aluminum chassis that adopts many of the design elements of an Apple Macbook Air, yet posses the large screen size of a MacBook Pro (albeit with better hardware) and a sticker prices that won't cause heart failure.

Software and What's Included in the Box

Samsung include a recovery media disk, a printed quick start guide, AC/DC power adaptor and RJ-45 Ethernet cable dongle with the NP900X4C-A02 Ultrabook. Given that the external monitor hook up is miniaturized, Samsung ought to have provided a mini-DVI display adaptor as well, as it stands you'll have to buy this part separately.

On the software front, we found a trial installation for Microsoft Office 2010, Cyberlink YouCam for the embedded web camera, a trial version of Norton Internet Security/Online Backup, Skype 5.8 and some miscellaneous applications. The full list of programs, bloatware, trialware and Samsung management applications are illustrated below:

Samsung Easy Software

All notebooks come installed with software tools designed to make owning and operating the laptop "easier" and more "convenient." By and large, these software tools amalgamate standard Windows configuration options into one area, wrapped in friendly graphics and dotted with big, GUI buttons. The line between bloatware and configurationware is a fine one that Samsung weaves across willy nilly. To us at PCSTATS it would make more sense if all these tools were combined into ONE single administrative software tool, but I digress.

Under the Start Menu > All Programs > Samsung folder we find the following management applications pre-loaded: Easy File Share, Easy Migration, Easy Settings, Easy Software Manager, Easy Support Center, E-POP, Interactive Guide, Multimedia POP, Samsung Fast Boot, Samsung Recovery Solution 5, Software Launcher and User Guide.

Of these, Samsung Fast Boot is interesting because it turns on Intel Rapid Start Technology. Samsung Recovery Solution is important for making a back up of the pre-installed operating system should you ever need to recover the entire OS to a factory installed state. The User Guide certainly saves paper, Samsung have gone for a flashy semi-animated guide with this notebook. The Easy Settings tool allows quick access to the Wireless LAN configuration (a key tool for compact notebooks), management of secondary Displays, the sound card and so forth.

On with the benchmarks!
