NP540U3C-A01 Battery Life Result
Samsung's NP540U3C-A01 ultrabook laptop uses an internal
52Wh LiPolymer battery pack that cannot be upgraded to a higher capacity unit --
hence battery longevity is quite important. Notebooks in the Ultrabook category
are designed with a host of energy conserving technologies, for example the
display backlighting is done with energy efficient LEDs, and the hard drive,
typically one of the biggest power draws is replaced by an mSATA SSD. On top of
all that, the notebook uses the latest generation mobile Intel Core i5 'ivy
bridge' CPU which has a rated TDP of just 17 watts.

First question, how long does it take to recharge the
NP540U3C-A01's 4-cell 52Wh Li-Polymer battery. In PCSTATS' tests, recharging
from less than 10% charge to 50% change took about 1h18min time. To recharge the
battery to 100% strength required just under 3 hours, which is pretty quick.
Turning to Bapco's MobileMark 2012 - in the Office
Productivity battery rundown test, the Samsung NP540U3C-A01 lasted for a solid
378 minutes, or 6 hours and 18 minutes with the WiFi on and actively in use during the run-down benchmark.
During this test the 5-series notebook achieved an Office Productivity
Performance Qualification Rating of 79.
Next up PCSTATS will benchmark the Samsung NP540U3C-A01
ultrabook with a range of productivity and content creation benchmarks.

Sysmark 2012 is a system-level benchmark composed of a
dozen or so applications used in a real world context, with pauses and intensive
periods over the course of several hours. The Samsung NP540U3C-A01 ultrabook
scored a result of 106, which is good for a mid-range Intel Core i5 platform.
Compared to the higher end NP900X4C-A02 notebook PCSTATS previously tested
(which is powered by a 1.9GHz, quad-core Intel Core i7-3517U processor) the
Samsung NP540U3C-A01 Ultrabook is a touch slower.
PCMark Vantage results are next.
The latest version of the popular PCMark series, PCMark
Vantage is an application-based benchmark and a premium tool for measuring
overall PC performance. It uses portions of real applications instead of
including whole applications or using specifically created code. This allows
PCMark Vantage to maintain a smaller installation size while still giving
accurate results.

An overall score of 9291 for the 5-series Samsung
NP540U3C-A01 ultrabook is okay, but lower than what we expected given the
results of the competing 9-series ultrabook previously tested (installed with
Windows 7 x64). Much of the difference seems to come down to the mSATA SSD the
NP540U3C-A01 is equipped with.
Next up, 3DMark benchmarks for the Intel HD 4000 graphics
core used with the NP540U3C-A01 ultrabook.
