Samsung DVD-P401 DVD Player Review
If you
thought you were confused at the mass of DVD players available on the market
today, think again. There is a relatively new standard out there that is
clearing the field and making it easier to pick and choose. Welcome to the era
of progressive scan.
Progressive scan is the yard
stick by which all DVD players are now competing and relates to the level of
quality in the final TV-bound image. You could be forgiven for blatantly
assuming that when something is digital that the quality is absolute. After all
DVD is digital and not analog so there shouldn't be any differences in quality
right?
Well, yes and no. If we go back in time to the
point that DVD's began to emerge on the consumer marketplace it was well known
that early DVD players did not provide the best possible output because they
really didn't need to.
Most televisions were interlaced so there was
really no point in displaying all the visual data on the DVD disc because it
wouldn't be visible anyhow. To save time, the players only output data
to drew every other line across the television screen.
