Unreal Tournament 2003 is the sequel to 1999's
multiple 'Game of the Year' award winner. It uses the very latest Unreal Engine
technology - where graphics, sound and game play are taken beyond
the bleeding edge. Unreal Tournament 2003 employs the use of Vertex as well as
Pixel Shaders and it's recommended that you use a DirectX 8 videocard to get the
most out of the game.
UT2003 seems to like the Asus K8V-DLX/WiFiB motherboard very much! At stock speed it's the
fastest board of the bunch and overclocking gives a nice boost despite having
the processor run at the same approximate speed.
Fast and well equipped, a deadly combination!
There are few companies in the world that
can command the same type of respect that Asus receives from the computer
industry. In a place where there's generally no loyalty, Asus is some how able
to breed intense brand loyalty among their customers. I have even heard some of
their customers say "I'll only use Asus products" or "if it's not Asus, I'm not
interested" while I'm looking for hardware.
With a retail price of just $175 CDN ($145 US) the K8V-DLX/WiFiB is fairly aggressively priced, especially when you consider the
board has Serial ATA/Serial ATA RAID and an additional IDE channel, 5.1 audio, IEEE 1394a, an
onboard 3Com Gigabit Ethernet controller and a wireless 802.11b NIC as well!
Asus' Ai features can certainly come
in handy, and my favorite was the CPR function. I hate having to reset
the CMOS every time I overclock too high, and with Asus CPR all I have
to do is turn the PC off and turn it back on again. The
K8V-DLX/WiFiB is extremely well laid out, from headers near the edge of the motherboard to IDE/ATX connectors,
and even mounting holes around the VIA K8T800 Northbridge; everything just works.
As you could see from the
benchmarks the Asus K8V-DLX/WiFiB is no slouch when it comes to performance. At stock speeds it was often first or very near the top in all the benchmarks. With the ability to
lower the Athlon64 processor multiplier, we were able to hit a very respectable 237
MHz FSB without having to
lower the memory frequency! If you're lucky enough to be shopping around for an
Athlon64 motherboard, make sure you take a look at the Asus K8V-DLX/WiFiB. It's
fast, full of features and relatively inexpensive, what else could you ask
for?
