MSI FX5700 Ultra-TD128 Videocard Review
MSI FX5700 Ultra-TD128 Videocard Review - PCSTATS
With 128MB of memory on board, and nice little bundle of software in the box, this should prove to be a pretty good deal for about $280CDN.

Overclocking the FX5700 Ultra

MSI's cards have earned themselves a reputation around here for good overclockability, and so we were obviously hoping for the best from the FX5700 Ultra-TD128 on the test bench.

Starting at the stock core speed of 475 MHz I began to raise things a few MHz at a time. Not surprisingly, the 500 MHz mark fell quite easily.

Seems like MSI's TOP Tech cooler works pretty well, for after a short while we found ourselves well past 550 MHz which is pretty darn good. The FX5700 Ultra-TD128 was just able to pass the 575 MHz plateau before slamming into the wall at 580 MHz.

Next, I pushed the DDR-II faster in 7 MHz intervals until the 1 GHz was left in the digital dust. Sadly, 1.003GHz was all we could get out of the memory, anything higher and the FX5700 Ultra-TD128 would start to artifact. Perhaps with additional cooling the memory might overclock higher... We took some temperature measurements with an Omega OS643E-LS Infrared digital thermometer and the reading was 68 degrees Celsius.

In the end, the FX5700 Ultra-TD128's core and memory played nicely together, running smoothly at 580/1003 for all tests you are about see.

Benchmarks and 3DMark03

PCStats has been a supporter of FutureMark since the days of 3DMark99, but for the time being we have stopped including 3DMark03 in Videocard benchmark suite. It has become clear that recent events have cast so much doubt in the legitimacy of 3DMark03 results that it no longer serves much reference value to our readers. We are aware of FutureMark's Approved Drivers list, but they can be somewhat limiting if newer WHQL drivers are available on the web. If the situation changes we will re-evaluate our position, and reintroduce the benchmark as decided. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us by e-mail or speak your mind in the PCstats forums.
