Benchmarks: 3Dmark03, Codecreatures
This new
accurate diagnostic tool, designed for DirectX9.0, provides you with all the
information you need to make informed hardware assessments. Havok Total
real-time physics library from Havok - these routines are used to accurately
model the movements of objects due to forces, etc. FMOD sound library from
Firelight Technologies - these are used for the various sound effects and
routines used in the tests. Graphics adapter analysis software from Powerstrip
of Entech Taiwan - this is used to correctly determine the speeds of the
graphics processing and video memory chips, plus supply additional hardware
information. Higher 3DMark03 scores denote better performance.

PCMark's
synthetic benchmark of choice has the knack of bringing the performance of
gaming cards into perspective. Performance is decent here for the Volari V8, but
we did notice a few
apparent texture problems in the 'troll's lair' section of the benchmark.
Overclocking the V8 bought us a respectable performance increase.
Our second DirectX9 benchmark, CodeCreatures uses a custom
engine to render a variety of complex nature scenes using DirectX 9 effects.
It's an excellent way to completely stress out your video card of choice.
CodeCretures requires a fully compatible DirectX 8 videocard with
preferably 128 MB of RAM to store textures. It utilizes vertex as well as pixel
shaders to run its tests.

This
demanding benchmark really brought the XGI Volari V8 to its knees. While the
card could not keep up with the others shown here, keep in mind that it is not
intended to compete with them directly, but rather their budget siblings. From
this perspective, the results are as expected.
