The Blobby Dancer benchmark contains both a 32-bit and a
64-bit benchmark that measures the performance differences between 32bit and
64bit. The benchmark has been optimized for AMD
Athlon64 and AMD Athlon64 FX systems (both
32-bit and 64-bit).

The first of our benchmarks shows how much
math-intensive operations like 3D graphics can benefit from the extra registers
and headroom the Athlon 64 processor provides in 64-bit mode. Running in 64-bit
mode, the Athlon 64 manages almost a 25% performance improvement over the same
benchmark run in 32-bit. Unsurprisingly, The 64-bit version of Windows XP
running in 32-bit compatibility mode lags behind its optimized, true 32-bit
cousin just slightly.

The
Mini-GZIP benchmark contains both 64-bit benchmark that measures the performance
of an AMD64 optimized version of ZLIB. It also contains a 32-bit benchmark
implemented with the standard (unmodified) ZLIB. Lower is better.

Again, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of WindowsXP,
using the 32-bit GZIP executable file turned in comparable figures. As for the
64-bit benchmark....wow! It's hard to believe this is the same processor!?
Optimizing the same program for 64-bit operation has brought more than double
the performance in this compression algorithm test. Those 8 extra registers
kicked in again.
The DivX
encoder benchmark contains both a 32-bit and a 64-bit benchmark that measures
the performance of raw video encoding of the AMD optimized DivX video encoder
version 503. The encoder has been optimized for AMD
Athlon 64 and AMD Athlon 64 FX systems (both
32-bit and 64-bit). Lower is better.

A decent, almost 20% boost here for the 64-bit version
of the Div-X encoder. Another mathematically intensive operation that benefits
from the extra registers and headroom of 64-bit mode. DivX compresses video and
audio data and is based on the MPEG-4 compression standard.
