Pifast is
a small program that computes Pi to a set amount of decimal places and displays
how long it takes. This gives us a basis for charting the results, giving a
performance indicator for new and old technology at a glance.

The Athlon 64 3800+ chip uses its extra processing power
to pull away considerably from its 64-bit sibling and Intel's offerings. This is
a good illustration of the overall performance advantage that the newest AMD
chip has right now.
The
Persistence of Vision Ray Tracer (POV-Ray) is an all round excellent package,
but there are two things that particularly make it stand out above the rest of
the crowd. Firstly, it's free, and secondly, the source is distributed so you
can compile it on virtually any platform.
Lower
numbers denote faster calculation times (seconds), and hence, better
performance.

POVray is
similar to Super Pi as it measures FPU power mainly. FSB and bandwidth do not
affect scores as much. Here we see that the Athlon64 3800+ is much more powerful
than its competitors again.
