By
combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, 3DMark2001 SE continues
to provide good overall system benchmarks. 3DMark2001 SE has been created in
cooperation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide
a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance
by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true performance
abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point
Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene
Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time
physics. Higher 3DMark scores denote better performance.

The two
Socket 775 systems are using a PCI-E GeForceFX 5750 that's why the score is so
low. Here in 3DMark2001 the Athlon64's rule the benchmark, the VIA based
Athlon64 3800+ can even break 22k totally stock!
The
Pentium 4 540 offers some competition again, but the Athlon64 3800+ still rules
this benchmark. 27K at stock speed is very impressive.
3DMark05
is the latest version of the highly favoured 3DMark series. It is the first
benchmark to require a DirectX®9.0 compliant hardware with support for Pixel
Shaders 2.0 or higher!

This time the faster running Pentium 4 540 comes out on
top in an impressive showing. The 3800+'s numbers are nothing to be ashamed of
though.
