FEAR is
Sierra's latest first person shooter which relies heavily on DirectX 9 features.
With its "Soft Shadows" feature enabled, even the fastest videocards run at a
crawl, FEAR is definitely the new benchmark for future FPS games to
follow.
Didn't we say that FEAR is heavy on the system?
With a resolution of 1600x1200, and with maximum details (Soft Shadows
disabled), it's too much for two Asus EN7800GT 2DHTV/256M/OSP/A when AA and AF
are turned to the max. Still with light AA+AF, the SLI Asus EN7800GT can play
the game just fine.
Asus EN7800GT's worth every
penny next to 7800GTX's
There is more to the Asus EN7800GT 2DHTV/256M/OSP/A
than just a fast videocard, it is also one of the best looking cards
on the market. The swanky blue PCB is a nice change from the traditional green
that all 7800GTX's come in.
Asus' cooling solution is also quieter and more
efficient than the stock coolers, let's not forget to mention the blue LEDs that
dot the videocard which spice things up.
Asus includes everything but the kitchen sink with each
EN7800GT 2DHTV/256M/OSP/A which is nice. PCSTATS tested the Asus EN7800GT
videocards in a dual SLI configuration, but just so it is clear the cards
are each sold separately.
Bundled Extras or Missing Extras?
Buying computer components can be very exciting for the
enthusiast and it is easy to miss something by accident, with Asus videocards
there is no need to worry. Asus includes DVI to analog converters with its
videocards as well as dual molex to six pin 12V power cables so you're all
covered when it comes to hardware. The software suite that comes with the Asus
EN7800GT videocard is well trimmed, and can keep a gamer busy for a couple
weekends.
Performance is where the Asus EN7800GT 2DHTV/256M/OSP/A
really excels. In nearly all the benchmarks the videocard/s keeps up with the
higher end GeForce 7800GTX in both single and SLI configurations! Pretty amazing
considering the GeForce 7800GT GPU has four less pixel rendering pipelines and
one less vertex pipeline, as well as slower clock speed for the core and
memory.
The Asus EN7800GT-2D4TV/256M/OSP/A overclocked quite nicely too. A
single Asus EN7800GT videocard reached 463 MHz core, 1248 MHz memory. With
two working in tandem they could overclock to 448 MHz core and 1246 MHz memory
without any issues! Very impressive considering how much heat these videocards
can put out.
With a retail price of $470 CDN ($400 US) per card, the Asus
EN7800GT-2D4TV/256M/OSP/A is an absolute steal and if you are looking for a high
performance videocard. In a single or dual configuration (depending on budgets
of course), the Asus EN7800GT-2D4TV/256M/OSP/A has enough power to handle any
game that you throw at it today; settings like AA and AF included!
