The overall score does not decrease too much with
Prime95 running in the background, but the CPU score does decrease by quite a
bit in this multithreaded benchmark.
Doom 3 is
the most advanced OpenGL game to date. It takes advantage of the latest
videocard technology and pushes the processing power of the CPU to its absolute
limits. At its highest setting, Ultra quality, texture sizes pass the 500MB mark
which means even tomorrow's videocards will have a hard time running everything.
The frame rates in the game itself are locked at 60 fps so anything above that point is
wasted. Each test is run three times and with the third run being
recorded.

With Prime 95 running in the background, Doom 3
framerates are still very high and perfectly playable. No surprise here, the AMD
Athlon64 FX-60 totally demolishes the Intel Pentium D 840 by upwards of 45%.
FEAR is
Sierra's latest first person shooter which relies heavily on DirectX 9 features.
With its "Soft Shadows" feature enabled, even the fastest videocards run at a
crawl, FEAR is definitely the new benchmark for future FPS games to
follow.

In the final benchmark of the day, the AMD Athlon64
FX-60 is able to maintain a huge framerate advantage over the dual core Pentium
D 840 even while Prime95 is running in the background. Simply impressive!
