Enter the AMD Athlon II X3 435 processor, the focus of this PCSTATS review. It's a 2.9GHz triple-core socket AM3 CPU built on the Propus die. So is it better to get a dual core CPU, a triple-core CPU or a
quad-core CPU?

32-Bit CPU Rendering Benchmarks: Cinebench R10, Bibble 5
CINEBENCH is a real-world test suite that assesses your
computer's performance capabilities. CINEBENCH runs several tests on your
computer to measure the performance of the main processor under real world
circumstances. The benchmark application makes use of up to 16 CPUs or CPU cores
to render a photo-reaslistic image. The scene makes use of various CPU-intensive
features such as reflection, ambient occlusion, area lights and procedural
shaders. In the first run, the benchmark only uses one CPU (or CPU core), to
ascertain a reference value. On computers that have multiple CPUs or CPU cores
and on those who simulate multiple CPUs (via HyperThreading or similar
technologies), MAXON CINEBENCH will run a second test using all available CPU
power. Higher results are best. Cinebench is multi-threaded.

Cinebench is one of the few cases where the AMD Phenom
II X3 720 Black Edition is faster than the Athlon II X3 435 processor. The
Athlon II X3 435 is also outpaced by the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 by just a hair.

Cinebench scores actually do get a little better (.02%
better), between the 8179 points the Athlon II X4 620 achieves in Windows 7 and
the 8164 score it manages in Windows Vista.
Bibble 5
is a multi-threaded photographic workflow application that can be used to
demonstrate the ability to scale work load across 4, 8, 16 or more processor
cores. The basic process we will use for benchmarking is to convert a batch of
50 RAW image files from a digital SLR camera from their original RAW format to
JPEG's at full resolution, using the applications default image
settings.
Lower
results are best.

While this benchmark is multi-threaded, it tends to show
the Athlon II X3 435 as being around the speed of Intel's Core 2 Duo E800 series
processors.

Scores get a little bit better in Windows 7, but not
much. The four-core Athlon II X4 620 is still a better value for intense
multi-threading applications.
