As expected the Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 motherboard and Intel Core i5 2500K combo climb to the top of Sysmark 2007 to beat out both Intel Core i7 920 / X58 platforms. All Intel P67 boards were tested with the same CPU/mem/SSD as the new Z68 boards, thus performance comes in at about the same level.

As you can see by the results above, moving from from an Intel P67 to Z68 motherboard won't really boost system-level performance in most applications. Many of the slight differences visible between the different P67/Z68 systems comes down to how Intel Turbo Boost kicked in. The Gigabyte boards are also a bit tricky in that they run by default with a x34 multiplier, up from the stock x33 setting of the Core i5 2500K processors.

PLEASE NOTE - All of the legacy Intel P55 boards and AMD 890FX/790FX/785G systems were run on WD740 hard drives, so direct comparisons shouldn't be made between these reference systems and the Z68/P67/H67 platforms which used an OCZ Vertex2 SSD for storage. The legacy systems are included in these benchmark results to illustrate just how far things have come.
