The first feature anyone looking at the Umatch mouse will notice is the clear window
on its' side. The window is where the thumb sits during normal operation and where the sensors are
housed. Measuring about 17x25mm in size, the clear sensor window scans your finger during the authentication
process.
The mouse itself is silver in colour, with a base that feels slightly
rubberized. It is a bit larger then most mice at about 40mm tall, but fits
quite comfortably in the palm. The unit we were sent to test out was the two
button version, but a wheel version is also available. No mice are currently
available in the optical flavour however.
The Umatch mouse connects to the host computer via a PS2 and serial port connector. For
the mouse to operate, both of these must be connected. Putting all the
security gear aside for a second, this is a simple ball mouse. The two large buttons
click well, and are fairly fast. I wouldn't call it a gamers mouse, but it
certainly does well as an everyday mouse.
Onto the installation procedure, and believe it or not, this mouse
need a serial number!
