PCMark04	Source: FutureMark

PCMark04 is the latest version of the popular PCMark series. PCMark04 is an application-based benchmark and a premium tool for measuring overall PC performance. It uses portions of real applications instead of including very large applications or using specifically created code. This allows PCMark04 to be a smaller installation as well as to report very accurate results.

In PCMark04 we find that the dual core processors do increase the 'Overall' and 'Processor' results quite nicely. We're a bit surprised to see that the Pentium D 840 and Athlon64 X2 4800+ are neck and neck at stock speeds. When the Athlon64 X2 4800+ is overclocked, it blows everything else away.

PCMark05	Source: FutureMark

PCMark05 is a premium tool for measuring both normal home use and simple 3D performance of the latest PC hardware. There are 11 system tests - each one is designed to represent a certain type of PC usage. By running these tests, PCMark05 stresses the components in a similar manner as they are stressed in normal home usage.

PCMark05 did not function properly in WindowsXP Professional x64 Edition, so those results are not included. We were a bit surprised to see the overall score go down in PCMark05 while the CPU and memory scores both go up nicely when the Athlon64 X2 4800+ is overclocked.
