Overclocking Results: |

The nVIDIA nForce 680i SLI Intel Edition chipset was an
excellent overcloking platform, so we're hoping to
see similar results from the nForce 650i SLI chipset as well. The MSI P6N SLI
Platinum will be equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 along with 2GB of Corsair's Twin2X2048-6400C4 memory. As usual before the
overclocking begins, the memory is set to run at DDR2-533 MHz mode.
Starting at 266 MHz the motherboard clock speed was
increased in ~5 MHz increments. Without much difficulty the P6N SLI Platinum
motherboard passed 300 MHz, most boards do these days. At 330 MHz the CPU
core was increased by 0.05V to stabilize things. The motherboard started to
BSOD while loading WindowsXP at 355 MHz. To solve this issue the nForce 650i SLI
SPP voltage had to be increased to 1.3V.
To slip past 400 MHz FSB, the Northbridge voltage was
set to 1.35V. Next we ran into difficulties at 410 MHz and the
CPU voltage had to be increased 0.15V. The MSI P6N SLI Platinum yielded a
maximum overclock of 430 MHz FSB, which is pretty darn fast! If you're into
overclocking, you're definitely going to be pleased with what the P6N SLI
Platinum has to offer!
Inside
the BIOS:
There are a moderate amount of memory timing
adjustments available for the MSI P6N SLI Platinum motherboard. Seen here are
the usual CAS Latency adjustments, RAS to CAS and Row Precharge options,
along with some new options.
Here is where all the overclocking magic
happens. The bus speed can be adjusted between 400-2500 (100-625 MHz FSB) in 1
MHz increments. The memory can be adjusted independantly of the FSB, and that
ranges from 400-1400 MHz. Maximum CPU voltage is 0.3875V above stock,
memory voltage goes to 2.8V, Northbridge voltage to 1.5V, Southbridge
voltage to 1.7V and FSB VTT voltage can be inreased 20%.
Prelude to Benchmarks
The details
of how the MSI P6N SLI Platinum motherboard test system was configured for
benchmarking, including the specific hardware, software drivers, operating
system and benchmark versions are indicated below. In the second column are the
general specs for the reference platforms this nVIDIA nForce 650i SLI based
system is to be compared against. Please take a moment to look over PCSTATS test
system configurations before moving on to the individual benchmark
results.
