By
combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, 3DMark2001 SE continues
to provide good overall system benchmarks. 3DMark2001SE has been created in
cooperation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to provide
a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming performance
by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true performance
abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point
Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene
Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using real-time
physics.

nVIDIA
cards typically do not score quite as high in this benchmark as ATi cards do,
but the Gigabyte GV-NX66T128D does pretty well for itself. Overclocking boosts
the score nicely too. The 6600GT is clearly superior to the slower Geforce 6600
card, and bests the previous nVidia flagship FX5950 Ultra.
3DMark05
is the latest version of the highly favoured 3DMark graphics benchmarking
series. It is the first benchmark to require DirectX®9.0 compliant hardware with
support for Pixel Shader 2.0 or higher!

There's
little surprise that the MSI RX800XT-VTD256E (Radeon X800XT) performs the best
here; it's in a class of its own. The Gigabyte GV-NX66T128D videocard scores
slightly higher than the Radeon X700 PRO-equipped Gigabyte GV-RX70P256V
videocard. Our overclocking provided a tangible increase in score
here.
