The Athlon 64 4000+ is not clocked faster than its nearest predecessor, but that doesn't preclude it from obtaining a healthy boost in the benchmarks thanks to 1MB L2 Cache.

3DMark05 is a brand new videocard and gaming benchmark,
and it is still in the teething process, but we included it for future
reference. Intel's Pentium 4 540 gets high overall marks, as you can see, while
the nVidia nForce combination continues its slightly hobbled performance. The
Athlon64 4000+ posts moderately better results than the Athlon64 3800+ on the
VIA chipset in the 'overall' section, and a nice increase in the 'CPU' segment.
The
Comanche 4 benchmark demo is a unique benchmark as it represents a real-world
gaming experience. It contains the single player "Eagle's Talon" mission from
the game as well as a detailed cinematic. This DirectX 8.1 benchmark demo will
measure your system's performance in the standard frames per second format. The
benchmark was run with audio disabled.
3DMark05 is the answer to the continuously growing
challenge in benchmarking!

In Comanche
4 CPU speed is everything, and the overclocked Athlon64 4000+ shows it. Both
stock Athlon64 4000+ platforms boast only minor increases over the Athlon64
3800+ chip, while the overclocked A64 4000+ processor screams ahead. It is
results like these that really underscore AMD's dominance in the gaming
industry!
