AMD Athlon64 4000+ Socket 939 Processor Review
AMD Athlon64 4000+ Socket 939 Processor Review - PCSTATS
The Athlon 64 4000+ is not clocked faster than its nearest predecessor, but that doesn't preclude it from obtaining a healthy boost in the benchmarks thanks to 1MB L2 Cache.

Benchmarks: ScienceMark 2, SuperPI

ScienceMark 2.0 Source: ScienceMark

Mol Dyn: Molecular Dynamics is a method for simulating the thermodynamic behaviour of materials using their forces, velocities, and positions. Most important of the afore mentioned is the force. Primordia: This code calculates the Quantum Mechanical Hartree-Fock Orbital for each electron in any element of the periodic table Lower times indicate better results.

ScienceMark 2.0
Mol Dyn Seconds Ranking
Pentium 4 540 (3.2 GHz) 83
Athlon64 3800+ 68.42
Athlon64 4000+ (NF3) 72.35
Athlon64 4000+ (VIA) 67.28
Athlon64 4000+ @ 2.72 GHz (VIA) 60.1
Primordia Seconds Ranking
Pentium 4 540 (3.2 GHz) 471.47
Athlon64 3800+ 341.45
Athlon64 4000+ (NF3) 344.09
Athlon64 4000+ (VIA) 341.98
Athlon64 4000+ @ 2.72 GHz (VIA) 306.41

Interesting results in this physics benchmark. Again, the Athlon 64 chips give excellent performance as we have seen in the past. The nVidia platform lags behind the VIA chipset by a noticeable margin in this benchmark, with the Athlon64 4000+ failing to keep pace with the Athlon64 3800+ chip on the VIA board. Intel's Pentium 4 540 rounds out the results in last place, with the slowest times.

Super Pi Source: SuperPI

SuperPI calculates the number PI to 1 Million digits in this raw number crunching benchmark. The benchmark is fairly diverse and allows the user to change the number of digits of PI that can be calculated from 16 Thousand to 32 Million. The benchmark, which uses 19 iterations in the test, is set 1 Million digits.

Lower numbers denote faster calculation times (seconds), and hence, better performance.

Super Pi (1 million digits) Benchmark Results (Lower is better)
1 Million Digits: Seconds Ranking
Pentium 4 540 (3.2 GHz) 41
Athlon64 3800+ 36
Athlon64 4000+ (NF3) 35
Athlon64 4000+ (VIA) 35
Athlon64 4000+ @ 2.72 GHz (VIA) 32

In Super-Pi, a popular number-crunching benchmark, the overclocked Athlon64 4000+ is fastest, as you might expect. The difference between the A64 4000+'s overclocked results and its times on the VIA and NF3 chipsets is only 3 seconds.
