A
completely rewritten 3D engine based on DirectX8 encompasses many visual effects
such as volumetric Nebulae (gas clouds) that have a real impact in the game (you
can hide in them), many new engine, shield, weapon and explosion effects.
Objects cast real dynamic 3D shadows! Dynamic DP3 bump mapping allows a
previously unseen level of detail.

Unlike some
of the other benchmarks, X2: The Treat shows the strength of nVidia's newest
chipset for the Athlon 64 as it pulls ahead, almost equaling the overclocked
processor score! Again, there is not much of an advantage over Athlon64 3800+
chip, but the A64 4000+ is still faster.
AquaMark3
is a powerful tool to determine reliable information about the gaming
performance of a computer system. Because the benchmark extensively utilizes
DirectX9, DirectX8 and DirectX7 functionality, it represents the requirements of
typical gaming applications in 2003 and 2004.

In Aquamark 3, the nForce 3 Ultra combination does not
fare as well as the VIA K8T800 Pro, and in fact boasts about the same results as
the Athlon64 3800+ results. Overclocking the Athlon64 4000+ reaps some
substantial performance benefits.
