The Mach II GT which arrived to PCSTATS for
testing is the standard black unit, and it pairs up best with an Enlight 7238
mid tower ATX case. ECT sells pre-cut top cases to match, but it is just
as easy to source out an Enlight 7238 and modify it yourself (instructions are
included).
Other brand
and models of ATX cases can be mounted on top of the Prometeia Mach II GT, but this will
require end users to modify them slightly. This is not difficult for the
handy and ECT includes measurements in the manual, which helps. If you want something
a bit more snazzy but can't be bothered to do the cutting and drilling, there
are Lian Li body kits as well as pre-modded cases available for a hefty
price.
The Mach II
GT alone weighs in at 19.5Kg, and when you factor in the weight of an average
computer on top of that, the total system weight will be very heavy. Obviously,
it is not something you would want to lug to a LAN party... but if you did,
you'd have the 'coolest' PC for sure. The 32-cell backlit LCD display on the Mach II
GT looks as good as a Matrix Orbital or L.I.S.!
Another change we noticed as compared to the Mach I is
a more flexible cooling head arm. The type used on the Mach I was stiff,
and harder to get the head to align to the socket. Whereas with
the Mach II GT, you can do this without breaking a sweat.
During
operation, the cooling head and flexible arm are heated to prevent the build-up of frost and condensation from becoming a
problem. Going back to our staffers' experience with the Prometeia Mach I, condensation can sometimes
form on the top of the cooling head on damp days, leading to the very occasional drop of water
on videocard below issue. This is definitely not something good, so the higher temperature heating of the Mach
II GT cooling head is a positive change.
Another improvement is the heater wire around the
flexible arm. With earlier units, condensation or even frost could appear on the insulation. Speaking from
experience, our staffer has seen this happen on his Mach I cooler many times, so
it's good to see little adjustments for the better to how the Mach
II GT is constructed.
