By
combining DirectX8 support with completely new graphics, 3DMark 2001 SE
continues to provide a good overall system benchmark. 3DMark2001 SE was created
in co-operation with the major 3D accelerator and processor manufacturers to
provide a reliable set of diagnostic tools. The suite demonstrates 3D gaming
performance by using real-world gaming technology to test a system's true
abilities. Tests include: DirectX8 Vertex Shaders, Pixel Shaders and Point
Sprites, DOT3 and Environment Mapped Bump Mapping, support for Full Scene
Anti-aliasing and Texture Compression and two game tests using Ipion real-time
physics. Higher 3DMark scores denote better performance.

The i915GM chipsets integrated Intel
GMA900 videocard fails to impress in 3DMark2001. When the Shuttle XPC
SD11G5 is equipped with a PCI Express x16 GeForce 7800GTX videocard, it is able
to outperform all the Pentium D systems even though all systems are using the
same videocard.
3DMark05 is
the latest version of the highly favoured 3DMark graphics benchmarking series.
It is the first benchmark to require DirectX9.0 compliant hardware with support
for Pixel Shader 2.0 or higher.

We see the same trend here; in 3DMark05 the onboard Intel
GMA 900 videocard scores quite poorly. With a GeForce 7800GTX, the Shuttle XPC
SD11G5 kicks some major butt. The CPU score is not as influenced as much by the
stand alone videocard.
