Cyber Patrol is hands down the most
configurable and flexible solution out of all of the ones we tested. It is able
to filter not only the web, but also IRC Chat, FTP, UseNET as well as
applications or games that you specify. It can even be configured to activate at
certain hours of the day or completely disable Internet access at the push of a
button.
For all its configuration options it certainly not very intuitive. The interface is a bit clunky in my opinion, but if you pay attention it's not too hard to get it configured. Here's a snap of the interface:
Let's take a look at how it
performed:
Pornographic Sites Blocked
4/10
Appropriate Sites Allowed:
3/10
As you can see, with a 40% success rate in blocking inappropriate sites, Cyber Patrol will allow your teenager to check out 60% of the available porn out there, and only allow about 30% of the appropriate content. Not very good numbers by any stretch of the imagination. We thought it doesn't get any worse than this. We were wrong. Read on.
