				Benchmarks: Aquamark3, X2: The Threat

 AquaMark3 is a powerful
tool to determine reliable information about the gaming performance of computer
systems. Because the benchmark extensively utilizes DirectX9, DirectX8 and
DirectX7 functionality, it represents the requirements of typical gaming
applications in 2003 and 2004. We test with screen resolution set to 1024x768.

The 1.7GHz Pentium M chip onboard the Gigabyte N512
notebook manages to best the Ferrari 4005's 2GHz AMD Turion64 in the processor
section of this test, but the Radeon Mobility X700 proves far superior to the
older graphics technologies once again.

A completely rewritten 3D engine based on DirectX8
encompasses many visual effects such as volumetric Nebulae (gas clouds) that
have a real impact in the game (you can hide in them), and new engine, shield,
weapon and explosion effects. Objects cast real dynamic 3D shadows! Dynamic DP3
bump mapping allows a previously unseen level of detail.

X2: The Threat relies heavily on CPU power, and the
1.7GHz Intel Centrino makes a respectable showing here, though it bows to the
superior speed and graphics power of the 2GHz AMD Turion64-based Ferrari
notebook in the higher resolution test.
