Sandra is
designed to test the theoretical power of a complete system as well as the
individual components. The results are also purely theoretical and may not
represent real world performance. Higher numbers are better.

Both
dual-core processors post extremely impressive CPU numbers here. These are the
highest figures we've ever seen in Sandra, bar none! The Intel Pentium D 840 and
its 955X Express platform seem to lack in bandwidth though, which could be
holding the combination back. Overclocking removes this restriction.
The
Persistence of Vision Ray Tracer (POV-Ray) is an all round excellent package,
but there are two things that particularly make it stand out above the rest of
the crowd. Firstly, it's free, and secondly, the source is distributed so you
can compile it on virtually any platform .
Lower
numbers denote faster calculation times in seconds and hence, better
performance.

Another
benchmark that gains nothing from dual-core or 64-bit operation. The Intel
Pentium D 840 manages to beat the single-core Pentium 4 540, but falls behind
the AMD processors by a considerable margin of ~80 seconds. Overclocking the
Intel Pentium D 840 cuts this gap in half.
