PCMark04 is
an application-based benchmark and a premium tool for measuring overall PC
performance. It uses portions of real applications instead of including very
large applications or using specifically created code . This allows PCMark04 to
be a smaller installation as well as to report very accurate results. Higher
numbers are better.

PCMark04 benefits from dual-core processing as several
of its tests involve extensive multi-tasking, and The Intel Pentium D 840
dominates the single core CPUs in this benchmark accordingly. Interestingly,
both single-core CPUs score higher in memory bandwidth than either of our
dual-core test processors; this could be the effect of the shared access to
memory that dual-core processors must provide. It didn't seem to hurt
performance on the other tests though.
PCMark05
is the latest version of the popular PCMark series. PCMark05 is an
application-based benchmark and a premium tool for measuring overall PC
performance. It uses portions of real applications instead of including very
large applications or using specifically created code . This allows PCMark05 to
be a smaller installation as well as to report very accurate results. Higher
numbers are better.
PCMark05 would not run on with the 64-bit AMD test
platform.

This brand new benchmark gave some encouraging results,
as the Intel Pentium D 840 outclassed the Athlon64 X2 4800+ in all tests. There
might be some issues with the test though, as it refused to run at all on the
64-bit AMD test platform. Also note that the overall score decreased when the Pentium D 840 was overclocked, even
though both the CPU and memory scores increased.
